AutoTech Breakthrough Awards Names Light Clarity the Auto Camera Solution of the Year

Annual Awards Program Recognizes Innovation in Automotive and Transportation Technologies Around the Globe

Silicon Valley, Ca, October 20, 2021 – Light, a depth perception technology company, was awarded the Auto Camera Solution of the Year by the AutoTech Breakthrough Awards for its Clarity platform. The AutoTech Breakthrough Awards recognize innovation, hard work and success in a range of transportation technology categories judged by an independent panel of experts from the larger technology industry.

“The Autotech Breakthrough award is great validation not only for the technology, but for the talented team at Light that has developed this industry-disrupting technology,” said Dave Grannan, CEO of Light. “We set out knowing that the goal wasn’t to achieve human vision -- it was to exceed it. This award is a point of validation and a stepping stone to getting this technology on every vehicle to make our roads safer, and this technology has the ability to do just that.”

Outperforming the range of best-in-class lidar, Clarity will power the next generation of advanced driving and autonomous driving systems by using passive cameras to enable vehicles to see 3D structures in the road from 10 centimeters up to 1000 meters away. Clarity provides far greater detail than comparable technologies by seamlessly fusing image detail with measured depth across the camera’s field-of-view, resulting in safer automatic braking, adaptive suspension, and lane-keeping systems.

The mission of the annual AutoTech Breakthrough Awards program is to conduct the industry’s most comprehensive analysis and evaluation of automotive and transportation technology categories, including Connected Car, Electric Vehicles, Engine Tech, Automotive CyberSecurity, Sensor Technology, Traffic Tech and many more. This year's program attracted more than 1,400 nominations from over 15 different countries throughout the world.

“The auto industry has spent untold dollars and years of research aiming to develop systems that keep human drivers safe while also making self-driving cars a reality. But gaps remain. Some ADAS systems are reporting 50 percent failure rates and recently, in California, nearly 9 percent of the disengagements by autonomous systems were due to perception system failures,” said Bryan Vaughn, Managing Director of AutoTech Breakthrough Awards. “Light’s multi-camera depth perception platform, Clarity, is changing the way machines understand the world around them by allowing cameras to see like humans. Congratulations to Light for the winning ‘Auto Camera Solution of the Year’ award.”
